Incarcerated is a LIVE band based out of Chennai. Formed in 2009, the band plays blues music. Although all the band members work in different fields and organisations, their passion for blues music was what brought them together. The band has been playing in and around the Chennai music circuit since then, with outstation tours in between. Melvin is the vocalist of the band. He is also an Academic Music Consultant in rock and pop at TCL (Trinity College London) India, and an actor in the Mani Ratnam movie, Kadal. His earlier musical roots started with a band called Powerlyne (1998 to 2001) as the guitarist with the band. His musical influences include Beatles, Bob Marley, Deep Purple, Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Stryper, WhiteCross, Scorpions, Hendrix, Eric Clapton, JJ Cale, BB King, SRV, Joe Walsh, Eric Johnson, etc. Mang is the lead guitarist of the band. He is also the operations manager at RR Donnelley. He is a self-taught musician and learnt the nuance by watching and listening, and with a little help from a friend! He has been playing in semi-pro rock circuit in around 1994–96 and won the best guitarist award at the SRCC Crossroad Fest’95. Prassanna started learning the Mridangam at an early age and trained under the Carnatic style of music. Later, he joined the Tamil Nadu Government Music College from 2001–2004, picking up and graduating on the drums. He took up additional tutelage under Joeraj, a renowned jazz percussionist in the Chennai musical circuit. He has also played with bands like Cask Ale and Shristi around the Chennai circuit. Shristi also won a reality music competition wherein AR Rahman was the judge of honour.
