Hiren Chate is a professional percussionist based out of the finance capital of India, Mumbai. One of the most representative sets of sound we can find to evoke Indian music is, without a doubt, the tabla – a cylindrically-shaped percussion instrument that always goes with another bigger drum, the bayan. In the hands of a famous tabla player such as Hiren Chate, its sound acquires a broad range of colors, with complex improvisations that characterize one of the richest and most sophisticated musical systems of the world. Hiren Chate has had classical education influenced by three traditional tabla or Gharana schools related to the regions of Delhi, Ajrara, and Punjab. He has trained with masters such as Pandit Yogesh Samsi, Sudhir Kumar Saxena, Shri Divyang Vakil and his father, Shri Raghunath Chate. Practising the technique and style of these instruments, Hiren has explored different musical genres to add new sounds to his repertoire.
