Harshad Dongare is a professional singer based out of the capital city of Tamil Nadu, Chennai.
Born in Mumbai, the Indian classical vocalist represents the new face of Indian classical performers who will take the art to greater heights. Having trained in Indian classical vocal music for more than 15 years, Harshad also excels in other forms of music including bhajans and natya sangeet.
Harshad’s training in Indian classical music started at the age of nine. His initial learning started at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Mumbai. Later, he received lessons from Shri Anil Naik for more than three years. His interest in vocal music reached a new height after he started getting lessons from Pandit Rajendra Kandalgaonkar of Kirana Gharana, a disciple of Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. He was awarded Sangeet Alankar by Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya and an MA (Music) in 2007.
Harshad was awarded with B High Grade in All India Radio (AIR). He was awarded Bhaskarbua Bakhale Puraskar in 2004 as an appreciation towards achieving the highest rank in BA (Music) from Lalit Kala Kendra, University of Pune.
Harshad was also awarded scholarship from Ministry of HRD (Department of Culture, Delhi) for advanced training in Indian classical vocal. He was also awarded the Ramrao Koratkar Scholarship and the Ushatai Mujumdar Scholarship from Gaanvardhan, Pune.
In spite of having trained in Kirana Gharana, Harshad is of the opinion to adopt the best from all Gharanas. Gifted with a sweet voice and having trained for long time, he manages to unfold various ragas intellectually and at the same time giving a pleasing experience to the audience.
