Hamza Kazi is known to many as a drummer with a good sense of humour. Although, he’s inclined towards the lighter side of life, the one thing he doesn’t take lightly is his drumming. A Mechanical Engineer and MBA in Marketing by qualification, he makes sure his drumming doesn't take a back seat 'cause of his work. Over the past few years, he has made quite a reputation for himself in various aspects of drumming. Be it gigging with his permanent bands, filling in for other drummers, doing live and studio sessions, recording albums, programming, transcribing songs, writing songs, designing drum related hardware, judging competitions, touring as drum tech, teaching drums at various institutes or conducting clinics. Hamza has experienced it all. Drums are of utmost importance to him and music is what defines him. Hamza’s obsession with drums began at the age of 4, when his parents gifted him a toy drum kit. After banging away relentlessly for years, he happened to hear Tool’s Lateralus album and decided that he wanted to take it seriously. Despite the lack of a drum kit, he began taking formal lessons from renowned drummer Gino Banks. Not owning a kit did not hinder his progress and in-fact enhanced his drum programming skills and his knowledge of drum theory as he would program beats and air drum to them. Hamza has been the official drum instructor at one of the most prestigious universities in the world, the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, since 2008. He has taught over 250 students there. He has also conducted clinics in many colleges across India in places like Pune, Delhi, Chennai, Rookee, Goa, Nagpur, New Bombay, Pilani, Lucknow and many more.
