Hamsika is a professional singer based out of the finance capital of India, Mumbai. She has worked with Maestro Illayaraja in Tamil films, with Vishal-Shekhar, Shailendra Barve, Shantanu Moitra, Sagar Desai, Raghu Dixit and Anand Raj Anand in Bollywood, and with Manikanth Kadri in the Kannada industry. Her international collaborations are with Bombay Dub Orchestra, Juno Reactor, Zoobazar, Prem Joshua (album ‘Kashi’), and Jose Salinas to name a few. In 2013, Hamsika received the Maharashtra State Award for the best female vocalist, for the song ‘Mann Chimb Pavsali’ from Ajintha, which had music by Kaushal Inamdar. Hamsika took Carnatic music training from her father, Shri S Balachandran, and gurus, Smt Kalyani Mani and Shri Chandrashekar Bhagavathar. She is trained in Hindustani music from gurus like Smt Veena Deshmane, Late Pandit Pheroze Dastoor, Shri Arvind Apte, Shri Gautam Mukherjee and Shri Vinay Pathak. Director, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, gave her a chance for the song ‘Chanda Re’ from Eklavya in 2007, much liked by the audience. Her song ‘Chammak Challo’ with Akon from the movie, Ra.One, released in 2011, music given by Vishal-Shekhar and performed by Kareena Kapoor and Shahrukh Khan gave her a new rank in Bollywood, followed by the song, One Two Three Four, from Chennai Express in 2013, with Vishal-Shekhar again.
