Guillotine is a LIVE metal/progressive band based out of the capital city of India, New Delhi. They play melodies that range from jazz and blues to death metal. The band released an album – The Cynic – in the year 2010. They say that their original compositions are a part of the three-tier concept of a man's realization of the hollowness of religious faith. 'The Cynic' is basically a concept album about a man who is an atheist and is frustrated by the fact that religion has taken over the society. Guillotine won first prize at the Rocktaves, held at BITS, Pilani, in 2009. At the Annual National Rock Contest in Hornbill Festival 2010, the band won the second prize, while Akshat Taneja won the 'best keyboardist' award. Guillotine was then selected to open for the international band, Metallica, in Gurgaon. However, the Gurgaon show got canceled by the organizers. As a result, they opened for the Rock n India 2011 alongside Inner Sanctum and Biffy Clyro – for Metallica – on 30 October 2011.
