Geeta Chandran is a professional Indian Bharatnatyam dancer. She has worked in television, video, film, theatre, and choreography. Geeta founded the Natya-Vrishka. Geeta has also written the book ‘So Many Journeys' which narrates her numerous engagements with Bharatnatyam.
She started learning Bharatnatyam at the age of 5 under Smt. Swarna Saraswathi of the Thanjavoor Dasi Parampara. She went on to learn from many Gurus after that. She has become one of the prominent faces of Bharatnatyam. She also learned Carnatic music and is a trained vocalist. Geeta Chandran has been a recipient of many awards including the Padma Shri Award by Government of India in 2007. She has also been showered with many other honors like TOP GRADE granted by Doordarshan (June 2004), OUTSTANDING ARTIST status issued by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) (Sept. 2005), CHENTAMIZH THANGAM award from the Tamil Youth Cultural Association of Dwarka, 23 March 2014, BHARAT NIRMAN SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AWARD: Bestowed on 16 March 2014, DEBA PRASAD DAS SAMMAN: Bestowed by Governor of Odisha Shri.
