Flute Jayant is a professional instrumentalist based out of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He is a prodigy with a talent and enthusiasm towards bamboo flute. He was taught by his grandfather, Sri TS Sanskaran, who is himself a noted flautist and a disciple of Mali. Jayanth also learnt vocal music under his grandmother, Smt. VS Sundari. Jayanth gave his first solo flute concert at the age of seven. His ability to play the RTP in three different speed levels (thrikaalam) surprised the senior accompanists and the audience on that occasion. He has been awarded ‘A’ grade by All India Radio, Chennai in 2013. He is credited with more than 900 flute concerts in India and abroad. His unique technique of fingering and blowing the flute allowed him to switch over to bass and double bass flutes with ease. Given that he belongs to the pioneering school of legendary Flute Mali, Jayanth demonstrates depth and closeness to the lyrical aspect of a composition. His spontaneity and perfect pitching coupled with artistic and bhava (emotion) laden rendering have won him appreciation from his co-artists and music connoisseurs. His powerful blowing technique enables him to produce a base tonal effect in the Mandhara saptak (lower octave). He has been deeply appreciated and accompanied by dozens of Carnatic musicians like Umayalpuram K Sivaraman, Sri TK Murthy, Sri Mannargudi Easwaran, Sri Bhakthavathsalam, Late Sri Vellore Ramabhadran, Sri M Chandrashekaran, Sri S Varadarajan, and Sri Vittal Ramamurthy regularly. He is currently learning under Sri Sanjay Subramanium. Jayanth has 10 albums and a DVD to his credit.
