In 2021, Elavenil Valarivan was selected to represent India in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Her coach, Neha Chavan, said in an interview that Elavenil used to attend the shooting training very early in the morning before her school started, and she also waited after school for more practice sessions. Neha Chavan explained, She stayed about 25 kms away from the training centre so she woke up at 4.30 am every day to be here for practice around 5.30 am.
