Dr Subhadra Desai is a professional singer based out of the capital of India, New Delhi. She is a senior disciple of Padmashri Pt Madhup Mudgal, and is a contemporary Hindustani vocalist and an academician. She performs regularly as a classical singer in India as well as abroad. She has been deeply involved in research and music education for two decades. She usually presents lecture-demonstrations on different aspects of Indian music, such as the history of khayal, Hindustani music, and other kinds of Indian music, bhakti in Indian music, songs of women seers of India, raga sangeet, music in Valmiki's Ramayana, etc. She is empanelled with ICCR, and is an ‘A’ graded artist with AIR. She specialises in khayal, bhajans, tappa, ancient Sanskrit and Pali texts composed in classical ragas. In addition to her professional repertoire of Hindustani classical music, Subhadra has a relatively large collection of devotional music (nirgun and sagun), authentic folk music, and Rabindra Sangeet.
