Dr M. Srinivas is an Indian medical practitioner from Karnataka, India. On 9 September 2022, he was appointed as the director of AIIMS for a period of five years or till attaining the age of 65, whichever is earlier. The order of his appointment was issued by the Under Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and the Appointments Committee of Cabinet, which is headed by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.After completing his formal education, Dr M. Srinivas started working as a Professor in the special expert division in the pediatric surgery department, AIIMS, Delhi, and then, he was appointed as Dean in Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Medical College and Hospital in Hyderabad in 2016. Dr M. Srinivas was given the responsibility to revive the ESIC Hospital and Medical College of Hyderabad.In September 2022, Dr M. Srinivas started working as the director of AIIMS and succeeded Randeep Guleria who had been holding the post since March 2017.Dr M. Srinivas mentioned in a media conversation that the success of an institution was the success of a system. Dr M. Srinivas said, Building institutions is important. Individual are nobody. Today we are here, tomorrow we won’t be. So the system is important. If this institution runs beyond me, it’s not my success. Srinivas, told in a media conversation that a number of remarkable improvements were made in several departments of ESIC in Hyderabad during M. Srinivas’ tenure. he added these improvements led to Srinivas’s appointment as the director of AIIMS. Nagaraj said, The Department of Health and Family Welfare has observed remarkable changes that he had made in ESIC, Hyderabad. Under his tenure, the ESIC gained improvement in all sections, which helped him to emerge as the Chief of AIIMS, New Delhi.”.His younger brother, Nagaraj, is a dentist. Nagaraj worked as a Dean at (Employees’ State Insurance Corporation) ESIC in Kalaburagi. In 2022, Nagaraj was transferred to ESIC, New Delhi. In a media conversation, Nagaraj disclosed that Srinivas wished to take up civil service; however, he finally chose the medical field. Nagaraj said, Nothing is impossible if a student points to his life’s goal and works hard to reach it. My brother is an example to the younger generation.”.
