Biography
DJ H is a professional DJ based out of the capital of Haryana and Punjab, Chandigarh. As one of the biggest Bhangra DJs of his time, DJ H is in high demand on the club scene all over the world. With a bag full of top records under his belt including the club anthem Ishq Brandy, the Bhangra record of the year, and winning the title of bestselling album of the year (2008) with his record, Reloaded, it is no wonder DJ H is flying high in the world of Bhangra. Although he is hit the giddy heights of success now, DJ H started from the very bottom. Born in Slough, Berkshire, in 1982, Hardeep Kataria, aka DJ H, first got the bug for music when he was given a set of turntables during his early teens. He lost no time in getting involved in the club scene and would carry equipment and help build sets for established DJs as a way of learning more about the business. Quickly developing his DJing skills throughout his teenage years, H searched for his style of music which would separate him from the others. His performances of mixing classic urban flavours with slices of desi beats ensured that his rise to DJing in London’s biggest nightclubs was a fast one. The ambitious DJ was keen to find his unique sound and spent a long time experimenting with classic desi beats and Bhangra tunes in an attempt to create something special. He succeeded, and it wasn’t long before he was being asked to play at some of the greatest clubs in London, sharing the stage with big names such as Jazzy B and Trevor Nelson. With his wide-ranging expertise of Bhangra, it wasn’t surprising when DJ H was picked up by UK’s biggest discotheque company, Calibar Roadshow. While performing with Calibar, he built up a significant reputation and became the most sought after wedding DJ. During this time, he also settled a record contract with renowned desi record label, Untouchables. He released his debut album in 2005 entitled, The Debut, which was a top hit. 'The Debut' album showcased H's variety of musical influences through some noticeable sampling, guided by label-mates, RDB. It was the opportunity to work with chart-topping singer/songwriter Lembher Hussainpuri that launched H's name into every bhangra fans CD player and iPod. The club anthem 'Ishq Brandy' was the bhangra record of the year, and the single and album held onto the BBC Asian Network Charts top spot for an unprecedented 13 weeks straight. Additionally, 'The Debut' also stayed at the top of Club Asia's chart for eight weeks. With a high budget video shot in India, 'The Debut' was rated one of the best albums of the year, and 'Ishq Brandy' without a doubt the Bhangra club banger of the year. This success later led to H releasing a chart-topping album 'Reloaded' with his colleague, DJ Rags. The success of the album forced H into every nightclub in the country, often performing in two different cities on the same night. His international reputation as one of the best Bhangra DJs was also enhanced, with international bookings in India, Dubai, and Hong Kong, amongst others.
