Digambar Kamat is an Indian politician who served as the eleventh Chief Minister of Goa from 2007 to 2012. Manohar Parrikar succeeded him as the Chief Minister of Goa in 2012. In 2006, Digambar Kamat was appointed as the president of the Swimming Federation of India, and he served in this role till 2019. In 1994, he was elected as a member of the legislative assembly from the Margao constituency on the ticket of the Indian National Congress. He was appointed as a permanent invitee to the Congress Working Committee on 31 March 2022.From 1976 to 1978, Digambar Kamat served as an Honorary Secretary of the Goa Badminton Association.From 1979 to 1987, the Golden Shield was awarded to Goa at the All India National level competition for grading agriculture commodities under the leadership of Digambar Kamat.Digambar Kamat began his political career as a member of the Indian National Congress. In 1994, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party coalition government. In 2005, he rejoined the Indian National Congress. On 6 March 2012, BJP won the majority government in the Goa Assembly Elections; however, till 2009, Digambar retained his Margao Constituency seat as a member of the Margao Constituency.From December 1994 to February 1999, Digambar Kamat served as a Member of the Second Legislative Assembly of Goa. From 1995 to 1996, he served as the Member of the Committee on Government Assurances, Member of the Select Committee on the Goa Advocates, and Welfare Fund Bill, 1995. From 1996 to 1997, Digambar Kamat served as the Member of the Committee on Government Assurances, Member of the Business Advisory Committee, and Member of the House Committee to study Model Rent Control Legislation. From 1997 to 1998, Digambar Kamat worked as a Member of the Panel of Presiding Members, Member of the Committee on Public Undertakings, and Member of the Committee on Government Assurances. On 26 November 1999, he was appointed as a Member of the Town and Country Planning Board.From 1999 to 2000, Digambar Kamat served as the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee and Chairman of the Committee on Government Assurances. From September 2007 to April 2008, he worked as a Member of the Rules Committee, a Member of the Business Advisory Committee, and the Chairman of the House Committee for the finalization of sites for garbage treatment plants/ landfill sites. From 9 September 2009 to 2012, Digambar Kamat served as a Member of the Business Advisory Committee and a Member of the Rules Committee.Digambar Kamat is a Life Member at Margao Cricket Club, B.P.S. Club Margao, Panaji Gymkhana, and Panaji Goa Cricket Association.In his leisure time, Digambar Kamat likes travelling to the countries like Nepal, Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia.Apart from being a politician, Digambar Kamat is also a social and cultural activist. Digambar Kamat is a Trustee at the Margao Ambulance Trust, Founder and President of Samrat Club, Rotaract Club, Margao, and Damodar Education Society.Digambar Kamat was elected as a leader of the opposition of the Goa Legislative Assembly on the ticket of the Indian National Congress on 17 July 2019. He was again elected as a legislative member of the Margao Constituency in March 2022.
