Born and brought up in Delhi, there has been only one thing that interested him other than cricket – music. Deepanshu is synonymous with quality, ingenuity and integrity. He is an Afghan violinist who is an exponent of the Shahjahanpur Gharana of Kolkata. Sultan was honored as the 'Genius of Violin' by Ministry of Culture in Kabul, Afghanistan in the year 2004. In 2007, he was titled as a 'Sultan' by Smt. Gurshaan Kaur, wife of the Former Prime Minister of India, Shri Manmohan Singh. Masood started playing the violin at the tender age of 11. He graduated from the Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM), where he learnt under Ustad Jalil Sadeed, Ustad Irfan Mohammad Khan (Indian sarod player), Ustad Ihsan Irfan, Ustad Haidar Azami, Zack (France), Ustad Basir Hussaini, Eden Macdom Summer (US), and William Harvey (US) among others. Sultan now lives in India and studies Hindustani classical music at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, New Delhi, under Ustad Aleem Khan from the Delhi gharana. Simultaneously, he has learnt from Anupriya Deotale and Ranjan Kumar Shrivastava, too.
