Debajyoti Mishra is a professional singer based out of the capital of West Bengal, Kolkata. He is an ace composer and musician with a distinct international edge. His musical style has been fashioned by diverse influences including Western and eastern classical music, and folk and post-modern music; thus blessing his creation with a symphonic and dynamic touch. Debajyoti Mishra is steeped in experimentation but without compromising with his aesthetics, overpowering skill by grace. His style is a unique blend of the ethnic with the avant-garde – an amalgamation that reveals the poet, the painter, the virtuoso, the humanist and the philosopher in him. He started his career in the celluloid world as the principal violinist to the great master, Satyajit Ray. After that, he went on to become one of the closest disciples of the legendary music director, Salil Chowdhury and was associated with him for 14 long years. Mishra’s compositions and tunes have transgressed the local boundaries to acquire a global recognition. He has composed music for nationally and internationally-acclaimed filmmakers like Mrinal Sen, Govind Nihalani, Aparna Sen, Rituporno Ghosh, Sumon Mukhopadhyay, Bhavna Talwar, Kamaleshwar Mukhopadhyay, Academy Award-winner Florian Gallenberger, and many others. His melodies in films like Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Ma, Chokher Bali, Raincoat, Bariwali, Titli, Chitrangada, Dharm, Memories in March, Ramchand Pakistani, Meghe Dakha Tara, Autograp, Iti Mrinalini, Goynar Baksho, Chaturanga, Sesher Kabita, Shadows of Time and Ar Ekti Premer Golpo have fetched him accolades and awards including the BFJA, a special felicitation at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2006 and other honours in Berlin, India, London, Venice, Munich, and Carlos Viveri.
