Daksha Sheth Dance Company is a professional dance academy based out of Kochi, Kerala. It is the brainchild of Daksha Sheth. She carved a prestigious reputation for herself in the world of Kathak for 20 years before she began to explore a range of movement expressions and performed with excellence in so many diverse styles.
Today, being in the field of dance since 45 years, she draws from her experience in Mayurbhanj Chhau, Kathak, the aerial technique of Mallakhamb, and the martial art of Kalaripayattu from Kerala to aesthetically combine tradition with contemporary Indian dance
The Sangeet Natak Akademi awarded her in 2010 for her experimental and creative in the field of dance. Each of her dance productions has been a product of such experiments and together represents a continuous evolution of a dance language. This evolving dance vocabulary is the signature of her work. Daksha is the first to introduce the aerial technique (since 1996) in Indian dance and blends it beautifully into her own productions.
As a choreographer and dancer, her strength comes from her command and love of rhythm, a natural flexibility and balance and an intuitive capacity to propel a range of emotions from sheer joy to energetic power. She wants to capture the vitality and rawness of ritual and folk performing arts, and combine this with the sophistication and precision of the classical forms and has developed an entirely original movement vocabulary over the years
The Daksha Sheth Dance Company has presented their Indian contemporary dance works in more than 30 different countries and in more than 25 countries.
