Biography

Creation, the brainchild of Arunava Dhar and Samir Bhattacharya, is a professional dance troupe based out of Kolkata, West Bengal. It took shape in 1999. It is a contemporary dance troupe, based on the creative style of dance, with a global outlook and universal appeal.  The advantage of the creative style is that it is adaptable to suit different dance forms, occasions and environs, without sacrificing its unique flavour. Apart from entertaining audiences in India and abroad, Creation also aims to create a forum for young and talented dancers, to explore and develop their immense potential for creating new dance forms and experimenting with hitherto unused themes and techniques. They are involved in the creative process from concept and costume design to choreography, music, stage settings and light effects. The duo has been disciples of some of the most famous exponents of classical dance forms.  They have trained in Kathakali under Guru Govindan Kutty, learnt Bharatnatyam from Thankamany Kutty, Kuchipudi from RS Anandam, Kathak from Bela Arnab and various other folk dance forms. They had been closely associated with the Ananda Shankar Centre for Performing Arts for about 20 years as leading dancers, senior teachers and assistant choreographers.
