Captain (Dr) CR Leena is an ex-Indian Army officer who became the first woman officer in the Indian military to have received a Sena Medal (SM) for gallantry in 1995. [3]Indian Army Day Parade 1995.In 1984, after completing her schooling in the science stream, she appeared for the pan-India Armed Forces Medical Colleges (AFMC) entrance examination and joined the AFMC as a doctor cadet.After completing her MBBS in 1989, CR Leena was commissioned into the Indian Army as a lieutenant in the Army Medical Corps (AMC).In 1992, she was deployed as a Medical Officer (MO) with the 3rd Battalion of the 5th Gorkha Rifles (3/5 GR) in Anantnag, Kashmir.In 1995, for her gallant actions, CR Leena was awarded Sena Medal (SM).In 1996, CR Leena took premature retirement from the Indian Army as a captain.
