BrahmaKhyapa is a musical duo, created by two proficient creative artists Sanjay and Malabika based in Kolkata. They are considered one of the most serious Baul musicians in contemporary Bengal. BrahmaKhyapa's music is a journey that speaks of human life much like the Baul does through his different philosophies which govern the soul and the body. A rigorous journey of more than two decades into the heart of these traditions provided them a first-hand view of the culture that lies beneath.
BrahmaKhyapa works with urban and folk musicians from across India to develop their genre of music. They also often collaborate with Jazz, Blues and Hip-hop musicians from the world and have given a new dimension to the music of Bengal. Their concerts are inimitable and motivating as they feature musicians from rural and urban settings, as well as their diverse use of musical instruments which include traditional Indian, folk and Western instruments and Malabika’s poignant voice. BrahmaKhyapa collaborated as a duo as well as solo with noted International artists like Tony Roberts, Laura Cortese, Jenavieve Varga, Devin Greenwood, Christopher Marianetti, Michel Massot, Emre Gultekin and has been the featured in of some of the leading media in India and abroad and has been showcased in a number of applauded documentaries and films like Love In India, A Baul The Baul, Bye Bye Bangkok to name a few.
The duo is keen on focusing on education through initiating projects like Jungle Music School, Train of Light, Artist Community Residency where they rigorously organized events and workshops for marginalized communities and children.
