The Barmer Boys are driven by Manga 'Mangey' Khan (vocals and harmonium) with the twin percussive punch of Rais Khan (morchang, bhapang and beat-boxing), and Tarif Khan (dholak). Scarcely in their 30s, yet prepared entertainers, they convey the centuries-old musical conventions of the Manganiyars, and are driving cases of Rajasthani society and Sufi music. The group was formed in 2011, and has performed with a large group of widely-acclaimed craftsmen including Vieux Farka Toure, Bombino, BaBa ZuLa, Madou Sidiki Diabate, The Gypsy Allstars, Rupa and the April Fishes, and UK's Jason Singh/Dharohar Project. They have performed at the Amarrass Desert Music Festival (2011, 2012), The Elders Conference, Escape Festival, Bhakti Samaroh – and that's just the beginning. The band's adaptability of styles and gurgling vitality imbues every execution – from heartfelt Sufi kalaams to elevating wedding and celebratory tunes, to riotous jams with beat-boxing (maybe even a LIVE simple DJ set).
