The land of Assam and the entire North East India have always been blessed with some great musicians across generations. Right from Bhupen Hazarika to R.D. Burman, and from Zubeen Garg to Papon, these geographies of India have time and again given the country, some of its most celebrated and talented musicians. Drawing inspiration from such stalwarts and believing in our dream, we came forward with The Aboriginals Project, a Sufi/ alternative indie rock band. The band, with all core members hailing from the state of Assam and Manipur, took up music to stand against the rise in discrimination against the Oriental people. The band is spearheaded by Dr Ronald (Ron) who is a professional and qualified doctor. He is supported by two budding talents from Delhi University. Ron is the driving force behind the band. His vision of ‘Music for Equality’ is amply supported by the other core members of the band. Drummer Ved Daulagupu and lead guitarist Samuel Vaiphei – both students from Delhi University, share the passion of Ron in fighting discrimination through music. Aboriginals Project is not just a band, but a phenomenon that evolved from different human emotions. Being founded by Ronald Bathari, Ved Daulagupu and Samuel Vaiphei, the band stresses on the problems of racism, women discrepancy and drug abuse. The band has written and composed songs like ‘lugurao gahamphai’, with the objective of spreading the message of brotherhood amongst different castes and religions. Aboriginals Project now has core members – Ron, Ved, Bonni, Lian and Thomson – all hailing from the North Eastern region of India but presently located in New Delhi. The band composes melodious songs in Sufi, English, and Hindi rock – and can be considered as one of the few North East bands who are into Hindi and Sufi music. Members: Ron on vocals and guitar Sam on lead guitar Bon on lead guitar Ved on drums and percussions Lian on keyboards and backing vocals Thomson on bass guitar
