Biography

3G is formed out of three generations of a musical family of Padma Bhushan Vikku Vinayakram (ghatam), his internationally renowned son Selvaganesh (kanjira) and Selva's son Swaminathan (konnakol and kanjira). Vikkuji was a key member of world's music pioneering fusion band 'Shakti' (also feat. Maestros Ustad Zakir Hussain, John Mclaughlin and L. Shankar). Coincidentally, Selvaganesh is now a member of the same band revived by Ustad Zakir Hussain and John Mclaughlin as ‘Remember Shakti’. Vikkuji’s grandson, Swaminathan, has found a deserving place for himself in the International fusion band 'MYNTA'. The 3G band’s music is essentially ‘high-energy’, being largely rhythm oriented, with the odd melodic element being provided vocally in the form of konnakols, that beautifully complement the percussions. This is a largely interactive set, featuring jugalbandis with the audiences as well.
