Ranjit Rana is a professional singer based out of Punjab. The pop artist is well known for his melodic songs. One of his popular records is Dil Di Gal. Ranjit has arguably the most influential voice among Bhangra singers today. Throaty, with a range that never fails to astound, he was possibly the most successful traditional artist doing the rounds of the local bhangra scene during his time. Ranjit has been known in Punjab for many years, but his big break in the expatriate market came with two songs, namely ‘Dil Di Gal’ and ‘Yaad’, that can only be called explosive. Since then, there have been remixes of his previous songs and a few new releases. Rana is a legendary Punjabi singer, and since most of his music has been produced in India, it may at first appear unpolished. Certainly, the music is more ‘rustic’ than that found in many bhangra bands from the UK, but it that does nothing to reduce its impact. There are more sustained dhol beats in Rana's music than you would find elsewhere, and the style is traditional. There is no room for small motions when dancing to Rana; the beats demand broad gestures and uninhibited movement. A note must be made of the high tone Rana sometimes practices, which sounds like a screech. You can find others trying such vocal pyrotechnics, but few can pull it off as Rana does. His singing technique works with the beat, so you will find him pausing along with the dhol and moving into different keys with it.
