Rock and Roll emerged as a popular genre in 1950s as a defined style of music. It then quickly spread to the rest of the country, and the world. Later on, its sub-genres evolved as a result of fusion between rock and other genres. These sub-genres are simply known as ‘rock’ now.

Led Zepplin

Led Zepplin emerged as an English rock band in 1968. The group consisted of Jimmy Page (Guitar), Robert Plant(Vocal), John Bonhams(Drums), Jimmy Page(Guitar), and John Paul Jones (Bass, Keyboard). The heavy, guitar-driven sound based on psychedelic music has led to their enormous commercial success. Albums such as Physical Graffiti (1975), Led Zeppelin II (1969), Led Zepplin(1969) were a huge hit for the band. The song ‘stairway to heaven’ is the band’s most influential songs of all times.

The Beatles

Formed in Liverpool in 1960, The Beatles were an English live band. The members of the band were Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr and John Lennon. Known as most influential artist of rock era, they were popular for their beat, skiffle and 1950s rock and roll. This live band then experimented with many genres such as Indian music, Psychedelic rock to hard rock. In their entire career, they have received ten Grammy awards and one Academy Award.

Metallica

In early 80s when metal music reigned the international music scene, Metallica emerged is a prominent American thrash metal band. The original artists of band were Dave Mustaine (lead guitar), James Hetfield (vocalist and rhythm guitarist), Ron McGovney (bassist), and Lars Ulrich (drums). With the astounding success of their first two albums, Kill ‘Em All and Ride The Lightning, Metallica became a household name in the arena of metal music. Both the albums and there third album, became very important heavy metal album ever.

Pink Floyd

As an English band known for progressive and psychedelic music, Pink Floyd earned international recognition for their work. It consisted of five members namely Syd Barrett (vocals and guitarist), Roger Waters (vocals and bass), Nick Mason(drums) and Richard Wright(vocals and keyboard). Their critically acclaimed albums include The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), The Final Cut (1983), Animals(1977), The Wall(1979) etc. The band was included in rock and roll Hall of Fame in 1966.

The Rolling Stones

Formed in 1962, The Rolling Stones are an English rock band. The original members of the band were Ian Stewart (piano), Brian Jones (guitar, harmonica), Mick Jagger (lead vocals, harmonica), Bill Wyman (bass), Charlie Watts (drums), and Keith Richards. Songs such as Sympathy for the Devil, Satisfaction (named as no.2 in the Rolling Stones Magazine as best songs of all times) and Paint it Black were some of their best work. The best was inducted into the Hall of Fame of Rock and Roll in 1989 and in 2004 it was placed in UK Music Hall of Fame. Some bands now exist while others have disintegrated but legendary music composed by them is a rich legacy for music lovers.
