Kedernath Bhattacharya alias Kumar Sanu is a professional singer based out of the capital of West Bengal, Kolkata. In 1987, Sanu got his first chance to sing in the Hindi film, 'Aandhiyan', offered by the music director and singer, Jagjit Singh. After that, he went on to work with renowned composers like Ravindra Jain, Pt RK Razdan, Usha Khanna, and Naushad. In 1990, he sang for the film, 'Aashiqui', which earned him the Filmfare Award as the Best Male Playback Singer. His next Filmfare Awards came for the movies, Saajan (1991), Deewana (1992), Baazigar (1993), and 1942: A Love Story (1994). He has also produced music for many Indian films and also produced the Bollywood film, Utthaan. Sanu has judged many singing reality shows including Sony TV's Waar Parriwar and Zee Bangla TV's Sa Re Ga Ma Pa - Vishwa Sera. His father, Pashupati Bhattacharjee, was an accomplished classical vocalist and composer who trained Sanu as a singer and tabla player. After completing his studies, Sanu began performing publicly, singing at shows and restaurants around Kolkata. And later, moved to Mumbai to pursue his career as a singer. He has made a record of taping 28 songs in one day, 161 songs recorded in one month, and 1100 songs in a year, in languages like Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Assamese, Bengali, Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, Marwari, Oriya, Nepali, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Gujarati, Gaddwali, etc. Awards: Padma Shri Award in 2009 by the Government of India Awards Kalavedika Awards - Pride of India Award Global Excellence Award for an outstanding contribution in music field Bollywood Music Award - Artist of the Decade BAFA (Black And Asian Film Academy) Award 'Outstanding Contribution Award'
