KRU172 is a rap/hip-hop/bhangra duo based out of Chandigarh, India. It comprises brothers Navdeep "Nottotune" Singh and Harsimran Jit Singh "Lucky". They officially started their musical journey in the year 2007, releasing songs – 'Dil Di Rani' by Nottotune and 'L.U.C.K.Y.' by Lucky. Kru172 is one of the most impactful north Indian Rap groups in the underground Hip-Hop scene. One of the earliest Rap crews from Chandigarh, they have been innovative and trend setting ever since they took the mic. Delivering hit singles one after the other, they surely know how to rock the crowd. Soon after, they began making more commercial music, rapping to reggaeton beats, while adding bhangra and Punjabi folk elements to it. They called it 'Desi Reggaeton'. The duo's another single 'Get it on The Floor' (remix of DMX song) was a collaboration with 2Shadez, a rap duo, which became another party anthem for the youth. After gaining deeper understanding in hip-hop, the duo started including social messages in its songs. Kru172 was praised for trying to make "Not doing drugs" sound "cool" when in April 2014, they released their song "Sunlo Gall", which they produced themselves as well. It gave out a positive message of living life to the fullest, and staying away from drugs. The duo has collaborated on the project 'O.N.E. – The Album', which was an underground album by the rapper Roxy from Pakistan. The project aimed at promoting unity and peace across India and Pakistan, with the help of music. The album included hit tracks like 'Gal Sun Ja' by Jazz Dhaliwal (a remixed track of the original 'Gal Sun' by Jinx), and 'Put it Up'. Their recent song/video "Shehar Mera Chandigarh" has been making waves, becoming an anthem for people of Chandigarh. Several celebrities, including Gul Panag (Link to her tweet), Rupan Bal, Nick Dhammu and Vishal Dadlani (Link to his tweet) have shown appreciation for the song. It was selected as legendary DJ Bobby Friction's “Track of the week” on BBC Radio Asia in October, 2015 and continues to be played on the prestigious station. The duo produces, mixes, arranges and performs most of their music themselves. They have also been producing for various artists across the globe. In January, 2016, India’s premier radio station 92.7 Big FM joined hands with Kru172 for their national “Kudiyan Di Lohri” campaign to promote the girl child.
