Kampai is the solo project of Bangalore-based Rumit Virmani who plays electronic music, which has a heavy emphasis on bass. Primarily a future bass and trap music enthusiast, Kampai also blurs the lines between genres such as Jersey club, twerk, DnB and footwork with his quirky sets.
Kampai is always up for pushing boundaries in the Indian electronic music scene through experimentation in his sets and finds inspiration in an assortment of different sounds and genres. His influences include San Holo, Rustie, AWE, Hudson Mohawke, Flume, Graves, Alison Wonderland, Pusher, BeauDamian, G Jones, Jai Wolf, MR Carmack and Sam Gellaitry to name a few.
In his musical career, Kampai has shared the stage with Ganz (Netherlands), Slugabed (UK) and Epic Empire (France) and has played at venues across the country including Blue Frog, Antisocial, The Humming Tree, Church Street Social and The Warehouse.
Apart from his music, Kampai also works as the culture manager at Social where he spearheaded the introduction of properties such as BASSICK Sense, etc. He also founded the city collective, Hybrid Cycle in 2015 and helped co-curate Boom Shankar Festival, India’s one of the few festivals exclusively for bass music.
