Arun Jaitley was an Indian politician who was the minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs of the Indian government from 2014 to 2019. Jaitely who was a member of the Bharatiya Janta Party previously held the cabinet portfolios of Defence, Finance, Law, and Justice in the Vajpayee as well as the Narendra Modi government.
He also served as the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha from 2009 to 2014. He was also a senior advocate of the Supreme Court of India and due to his health issues, he decided not to join the Modi cabinet in the year 2019. He studied at St Xavier’s school in Delhi from the year 1957 to 1969 and then he graduated in 1973 from one of the best colleges of Delhi, Shri Ram College of Commerce in 1973 and then in 1977 from the Faculty of Law,
University of Delhi passed his LLB degree. In the late 70s, he was a student leader of ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad)at the campus of Delhi University and then rose to be the president of the Students Union of Delhi University in 1974. Delhi high court designated him as a Senior Advocate in the year 1990. He also did the paperwork for the investigations of the Bofors scandal. For BJP he became the spokesperson in 1999. From 2000-2018 he was also the MP of the Rajya Sabha for Gujarat.
Due to diabetes, Arjun Jaitley gained excess weight, for which he went a bariatric surgery in 2014.
