Ashton is one of the few young musicians in Mumbai who chose to play saxophone. Even though it was jazz that drew him to this beautiful instrument, he is quite comfortable blowing his horn with pop, rock and funk bands as well. He plays alto, tenor and soprano saxes and some mean concert flute. He is a regular on Mumbai's jazz circuit and has made a mark for himself both as a live as well as session artiste. Ashton has performed with Soul Yatra, the first Indian band selected for the Hennessey XO jazz tour. I Love To Blow My Own Horn - Señor Ashton Colaço "My Journey into Saxland and the horns started with me watching the Jazz Yatra 1978 on TV, as five-year old I was fascinated with how the saxophonists played and generally the horns, I got a chance to play wind instruments as a 12 year old at my school Don Bosco Matunga, I used to play Eb clarinet in school - they wouldn't give me a saxophone then. There was a long break after that and then years later my path crossed with Mumbai sax man Joe Pereira aka Jazzy Joe and I eventually convinced my dad I got a Tenor Sax as my 21st birthday gift. I began learning from him along with my studies in Chartered Accountancy. 'Ive been hooked on ever since .. The Journey now continues on Tenor, Soparano, Alto Saxophones, Concert Flute & Clarinet "
