Akriti Kakar is a professional singer based out of the finance capital of India, Mumbai. She started learning Hindustani classical music at the tender age of five – from her mother, who is a post graduate in Hindustani classical music, and also from Late Sh Byomkesh Banerjee. Akriti gave her first stage performance at the age of five and, from there, became a part of 'Little Stars' – a music troupe of Anand ji (Kalyanji Anandji fame). From there, she went on to have a world tour twice. She was the winner of TVS SaReGaMa National Talent Hunt 1998 (Junior/Children's Special) on Zee TV and the most prestigious award from Sangam Kala Group (New Delhi). After singing popular songs in hit films like Billu, Kismat Konnection, Johnny Gaddaar, Golmaal Returns and many more, she released her self-titled album through Sony Music India. Her debut remix was 'Rangeela Re' that released on HMV music label, on the album Baby Doll Chapter 2, which opened many doors for her. Many remixes like 'Jal Bin Machli' and 'Saiyaan Jhoothon ka Bada Sartaj' followed alongside a brief musical VJing stint with ETC, a music channel. Gradually, doors of Bollywood opened for her, with 'Chham Se' from the movie Dus, by Vishal-Shekhar; then with Himesh Reshammiya for songs like 'Dil Vich Lageya Ve' and 'Inshallah'; and then with Pritam for songs like 'Marjaani' and 'Khudaya Khair'. The trio – Shankar Ehsaan Loy – gave her the title song of Johnny Gaddar. Her original solo album released on Sony Music and bagged the best non-film popular album award at GIMA Awards.
