Abhijit Pohankar is a professional singer based out of the finance capital of India, Mumbai. He is the face of new age Indian music. Music composer, producer, singer, and Indian classical keyboardist, Abhijit is one of the most versatile musician.  Music runs in his blood as he is the son of the renowned classical vocalist maestro, Pt Ajay Pohankar. He is also trained in instrumental style of Indian music from world renowned santoor maestro, Pt Shivkumar Sharma. Perhaps, Abhijit is the only Indian to play Indian classical music on a keyboard.  Abhijit came in to limelight with the success of his fusion/new age music album, 'Piya Bawari' in 2002. It became one of the most popular songs in the history of Indian non-film music. The album remained in the top three charts of MTV. Abhijit is the pioneer of Indian lounge music. 'Piya Bawari' went on the international level by its inclusion in the famous Buddha Bar in France.  Abhijit has produced more than 20 albums worldwide with the most reputed labels like HMV, Times Music, Music Today, Universal Worldwide and Freespirit Records. His songs also have been compiled by some of the top international labels like Sounds True and Buddha Bar.  Abhijit's music has elements of Indian traditional music fused with lounge and other world music sounds, and his music videos are the most exotic. The video of Piya Bawari was shot on the islands of Andaman and Nicobar and has won several awards.  With the use of traditional classical melodies, Abhijit creates a unique style of music. His works have been appreciated by many well-known musicians. He thinks differently and presents his music in a stylish way. He is one of the first musicians to make Indian classical music accessible to the youngsters.  He has also co-composed the title track for Amitabh Bachchan's 'Boom', along with the London-based percussionist, Talvin Singh. His song was picturised on the legendary Bo Derek and shot on the exotic beaches. Abhijit is a stage performer, having done many concerts all over the world, at the legendary venues like the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. He has mesmerized audiences in India at some top concerts and events with his flamboyant performances and with some of the top musicians of the world. Abhijit has received many awards in India, like The Youth Icon of Music Award from Rotary Club, Della Technica Award for Excellence in Music, and also the Tata AV Max Award for the best music album, Piya Bawari in 2002.
