NAFS The Band is a LIVE band that is based out of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Arjun Chandy, the music director, arranger, studio vocalist and conductor from Dallas, Texas has attempted to make this a global phenomenon. He spent over a year to train the band.
They find inspiration in the works of Blue Man Group, Yomoto, Manhattan Transfer and others.
Arjun has depth of knowledge in Carnatic and Hindustani music. He has been performing for over 20 years and spent years performing as a solo jazz vocalist with both jazz combos and big bands.
His musical adventure continued with him working with Srinivas Krishnan, Glen Velez, Jeff Queen, Robin Eubanks, Jamie Haddad, Victor Mendoza, Egui Castrillo, Brian Piper, Ed Soph, Embar Kannan, Ghatam Karthik, Umayalpuram Sivaraman, AR Rahman and Dave Brubeck.
He sang the American national anthem at a sporting event in Dallas and for President George Bush. He also worked at a jingle industry in Dallas.
Exploring styles such as choral, barbershop, jazz and world music has always been appreciated by the audience.
AR Rahman commissioned him to write arrangements and conducting a vocal group NAFS in 2014. He is an assistant in AR Rahman’s studio where he works as an arranger and supervisor of chorus sessions.
